The short answer? It depends on the patch type, size and quantity — but custom patches become surprisingly affordable once you move beyond the smallest production runs.

How many custom patches do you need to order?
WHY DOES 100 COST LESS PER PATCH?
Production setup is spread across more pieces.
A custom patch order involves much more than simply running a machine for a few seconds.
Your artwork needs to be prepared for the chosen construction, colours selected, the patch sampled, checked and approved, and the production run set up correctly.
At 20 pieces, those production costs are divided between relatively few patches. At 100, 250 or 500 pieces, the same preparation is spread across a much larger run — so the cost per patch drops.
WHAT CHANGES THE PRICE?
Four things matter most.
Quantity
Usually the biggest influence on the unit price. Larger runs cost less per patch.
Patch Size
Larger patches use more material and require more machine time.
Patch Type
Woven, embroidered, chenille, printed and PVC all have different production methods.
Construction
Complex mixed techniques or unusual requirements can affect the final production cost.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
More than just the patch.
Some quotes look inexpensive until setup, sampling, backing, VAT and delivery start appearing afterwards. We prefer the quote to actually mean what it says.
A real physical sample made before your main production run.
If something needs changing before approval, we don't charge extra for the revision.
No additional charge if your patch requires our standard iron-on backing.
Standard suitable edge finishing is included rather than added as a surprise extra.
The price you receive already accounts for VAT.
Standard UK delivery is included in our pricing.
YES — THE SAMPLE IS INCLUDED
We want to get it right before production starts.
Your pre-production sample is a real patch made on sampling machinery, not simply another digital mock-up.
We send the sample through for approval before the main production run begins. If something needs tweaking, we'll revise it before proceeding.
There is no separate sample charge and no additional revision fee.
And most of the time? The first sample is approved exactly as it is.
WHAT ABOUT BACKINGS?
Iron-on doesn't have to mean white.
Backing colour can be part of the design too.
One client chose a coloured iron-on backing because they wanted the finished patch to double as a coaster. A white reverse could quickly look marked in use, whereas the coloured backing kept it looking purposeful — and it could still be used as a patch afterwards.

BULK DOESN'T HAVE TO MEAN ONE DESIGN
Multiple designs can be packaged into one production project.
If you have several patch designs, we don't simply take the standard small-quantity rate and multiply it over and over again.
Where designs can be produced together, we'll look at the complete requirement and build a package around the overall production run.
That could mean 5 designs, 10 designs or more than 50 different patches depending on the project.
This is particularly useful for organisations, merchandise ranges, events, clubs and businesses that need a family of different designs rather than hundreds of one identical patch.
WHY 100 IS SO POPULAR
You don't have to order thousands to get good value.
For many clubs, brands, organisations and events, 100 patches is enough stock to be genuinely useful without creating a huge commitment. At the same time, the unit cost has already dropped substantially from the minimum 20-piece production tier.

Custom patch pricing FAQ.
Is 20 patches really the minimum?
For embroidered, woven, chenille and printed custom patches, our minimum order generally starts at 20 pieces per design. PVC starts from 50 pieces.
Is the sample an extra cost?
No. Your pre-production sample is included in our pricing, as are reasonable revisions required before production approval.
Does iron-on backing cost extra?
No. Standard iron-on backing is included, and alternative backing colours such as black or another suitable colour do not carry an additional charge.
What does hook and loop cost?
Hook and loop typically adds only around £0.05 per patch.
Is VAT included in the quote?
Yes. VAT is included in our pricing rather than appearing as an unexpected addition later.
Is UK delivery included?
Yes. Standard UK delivery is included in our quoted custom patch pricing.
Can I order several different designs?
Absolutely. Multi-design projects can be packaged together rather than simply pricing every design independently at the standard small-run rate.
Why can't you just show one fixed patch price?
Because a 40mm woven badge, a large chenille back patch and a moulded PVC design require very different production processes. Size, type and quantity need to be known before an accurate price can be calculated.
