PATCHES R US ACADEMY
Custom Patches for Military, Defence & Tactical Organisations
Morale Patches, Operational Projects, 3D PVC, Woven Badges & Hook-and-Loop
From authorised military and defence projects to humanitarian organisations, specialist operational teams, airsoft communities and morale patches, we develop custom patches around the artwork, environment and way they actually need to be used.
THE PATCH HAS TO WORK IN THE REAL WORLD
Start With the Job the Patch Needs to Do
There isn't one universal construction for military, defence or tactical-style patches.
A detailed woven organisational badge, a removable morale patch and a complex 3D PVC design all present completely different production challenges.
That's why we look at the artwork, finished size, equipment, environment and attachment method before deciding how the patch should be made.
Tell us what the patch will be attached to, how it will be used and whether it needs to be removable. That context can completely change the construction we recommend.

CHOOSE THE CONSTRUCTION
PVC, Woven or Embroidered?
Rather than forcing every design into one patch type, match the production method to the artwork.
PVC
Bold & Dimensional
PVC is excellent for modern morale patches, outdoor applications and artwork that benefits from raised or recessed details.
WOVEN
Fine & Precise
Woven construction uses finer threads than embroidery, allowing smaller lettering, linework and complex insignia-style detail.
EMBROIDERED
Traditional & Textured
Embroidery creates the familiar raised thread finish associated with many traditional uniform and team patches.
REAL RAF MORALE PATCH PROJECT
From Complex Concept Artwork to a Finished 3D PVC Patch
This RAF morale patch project is a brilliant example of why complex artwork sometimes needs to be interpreted for manufacture rather than simply copied directly onto a patch.
Original Concept
The starting artwork established the character, composition, typography and dramatic visual direction of the patch.
Technical Production Plan
The artwork was broken down into moulded PVC structure, printed areas, colours, borders and backing requirements.
3D Structure
The moulded sample allowed the raised shapes, character detail and overall depth of the PVC construction to be assessed.
Finished Patch
Printed colour and illustration were combined with the physical PVC structure to create the finished morale patch.
The original concept contained far more photographic detail than could simply be moulded into PVC. Instead, the design was engineered around what should become raised structure, what should remain printed and what needed adapting so the artwork would still read clearly at its finished size.
COMPLEX ARTWORK DOESN'T HAVE TO BECOME BASIC
The Question Is Which Detail Goes Where
Highly illustrated artwork doesn't automatically rule out a physical patch.
Instead, different production techniques can sometimes be combined so texture, print and dimensional features each handle the part of the design they reproduce best.
REAL HUMANITARIAN / MINE ACTION PROJECT
Fine-Detail Woven Patch for a UNOPS Mine Action Project
Operational-style patches aren't limited to military applications. Specialist humanitarian programmes can require the same level of accuracy, clarity and professional production.
This patch was produced for a UNOPS Mine Action project and demonstrates a completely different construction challenge from the RAF PVC morale patch.
Rather than using dimensional PVC, this project was produced as an embroidered patch on a woven twill base. The combination provides a clean professional appearance while allowing the central emblem, circular typography and fine details to remain clear and well balanced.
Embroidered patch with a traditional merrowed border.
Raised embroidery provides texture while keeping the design crisp and professional.
The raised stitched edge gives the circular patch a traditional, clearly defined finish.
The woven twill foundation creates a smooth surface for the embroidered detail and lettering.
A professional embroidered construction suited to organisational and humanitarian programmes.
Project examples are shown to demonstrate patch construction and production techniques and do not imply endorsement of Patches R Us by the organisations shown.
REMOVABLE BY DESIGN
Hook & Loop Makes the Patch Interchangeable
Hook-backed patches attach to compatible loop panels already fitted to garments, bags and equipment.
That makes them particularly useful where patches need to be changed, repositioned, collected or removed.
DESIGN AROUND THE EQUIPMENT
Where Will the Patch Actually Go?
Kit Bags
Team identification, morale patches and removable designs.
Plate Carriers
Compact patches designed around existing loop panels.
Softshells
Team, course or removable morale patches on compatible garments.
Headwear
Smaller patches designed for limited attachment areas.
Equipment
Identification and branding on compatible cases and field kit.
Display Collections
Hook-backed patches can be stored and displayed on loop panels.
MORALE PATCHES
Some Designs Are About Identity Rather Than Formal Insignia
Morale patches can be serious, humorous, commemorative, event-specific or completely unique to one team.
This makes them a particularly creative part of the patch world, especially when PVC, embroidery, weaving and print are used in different ways.
AIRSOFT & MILSIM
Build an Original Team Identity
Airsoft and milsim groups can use custom patches for team branding, scenario events, competitions and collectible morale designs.
Hook-and-loop backing is especially useful because patches can move between compatible gear.
TRAINING, COURSES & EVENTS
Give a Specific Programme Its Own Patch
Training Courses
Course identity, instructor teams and completion patches.
Exercises
Specific exercise, challenge and training-event designs.
Events
Participants, organisers, teams and commemorative event patches.
Completion
A physical reminder of a course, challenge or achievement.
FROM AI CONCEPTS TO OLD PATCHES
Send Us the Best Reference You Have
The RAF example above began with highly detailed concept artwork — exactly the sort of image that needs production interpretation rather than a simple automatic conversion.
Other projects begin with vector artwork, photographs, sketches, existing patches or older design files.
SAMPLE BEFORE MAIN PRODUCTION
A Digital Proof Can't Show Physical Construction
Raised PVC, embroidery texture, woven detail, border thickness and real material colours need to be seen in an actual manufactured patch.
Our standard process includes a real pre-production sample, normally reviewed using clear photographs or video before the main production run.
KEEP THE APPROVED SPECIFICATION
Future Production Shouldn't Mean Starting Again
Once the design, dimensions, colours, backing and construction are approved, the established specification can form the basis of future production.
